Scope Of Work

In 2006, The Town of Bolton contracted with Schoenhardt Architecture + Interior Design, a Fletcher Thompson Company, to provide a town-wide assessment of its facilities in order to find the most cost-effective and appropriate solution for Bolton High School’s educational, code and space deficiencies. This 4 ½ year effort will bring the students of Bolton and neighboring Columbia, CT, a fully renovated and expanded LEED™ Silver Certified facility by the end of 2011.

The expansion of this facility will not only address and overcome existing accessibility and environmental challenges, but also provide the high school’s students with a new educational program and a “new era” in teaching that is designed for 21st century skills, focusing on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) courses. It will also include a new library media center, a new student commons and performance space, and a state-of-the-art culinary lab, enhancing the Bolton 2020 Vision. A geothermal well-field and heat pump heating and cooling will be provided for each classroom, making the on-site need for fossil fuel obsolete, while the storm water design, lighting design, and material selections were made to meet high performance requirements.
