Scope Of Work

This historic building required years of planning and design by public officials before work began. To ensure the integrity of this landmark building would be preserved, Sorensen Gross was selected as Construction Manager. The following was included to maintain a connection to the original structure: marble wainscoting, wrought iron handrails, American walnut interior appointments, mill work ornamentation of European origin and courtroom murals. The integration of the addition was intricate, as the building was occupied during construction, and extreme safety measures were taken. Access routes were established, and the courtrooms remained functional.

The integration of the 60,000 square foot addition was an intricate process, as the courtrooms were accessed by lawyers, judges and the public. Access routes and extreme safety measures were established to maintain functionality at all times. In addition, wall coverings in the courtrooms contained over 55% asbestos, which had to be removed, cleaned up and replaced with drywall. This area covered several square miles of courtroom and hallway space.
