After completion of the Cleveland Waterfront District Plan, City Architecture, collaborating with the Ohio Department of Transportation, led the initial phases of implementation by developing the Lakefront West Plan. The $200M infrastructure plan extends from Edgewater Park on the west side, to East 25th Street on the east, and proposes to transform this under-utilized highway to a grand, tree-lined byway, complete with 2 miles of continuous lakefront bike path that link existing neighborhoods and waterfront parks. The initial phase included creating accessible pedestrian connections, via a series of ramps, stairs and tunnels, between surrounding neighborhoods and Lake Erie's shoreline. Public art installations, combined with creative landscaping, soften the environment and create two grand entries to one of Cleveland's most utilized parks.
