Scope Of Work

HUB 55 aims to redefine one of Cleveland's most traveled intersections, offer new options to neighborhood residents and infuse new investments into this once thriving district. The surrounding neighborhoods were home to thousands of Slovenian immigrants and business owners, establishing an Eastern European aesthetic and way of life. As the neighborhood transitioned, like much of Cleveland's core, its cultural identity has remained. Neighborhood institutions such as Frank Sterle's County House and the Slovenian National Home continue to celebrate the district's rich cultural history.

HUB 55 re-establishes a community gathering place. At its core is the repurposing of a 50,000 square foot warehouse into an indoor marketplace. A new restaurant, Cafe 55, offers healthy eating options and connects to plazas for outdoor dining opportunities. Goldhorn Brewery will brew "old world" style beers in its 15,000 square foot facility. A flexible marketspace will provide opportunities for neighborhood vendors and speciality shops, focused on handmade goods and offering healthy food to the neighborhood. HUB 55's spaces are interconnected via an interior "Main Street".

Planning for future expansions and connections includes creating a series of linked plazas and gathering spaces. HUB 55's footprint will grow, through the vacation of a streets, providing pedestrian connections between the marketplace and Sterle's restaurant. New park spaces are envisioned to redefine the busy intersection, promoting the district's walkable nature by calming traffic along East 55th Street. This catalytic initiative has the potential to connect people with place while celebrating the area's rich history by taking advantage of cultural institutions, engaged residents and visionary property owners. City Architecture is proud to be involved with the HUB 55's development as its goals and objectives align perfectly with who we are.
