Our Story
Founded in 1984, Dartmouth Building Supply (DBS) has evolved into one of the largest independent family-owned and operated building material suppliers in Southeastern Massachusetts. Company headquarters is conveniently located in North Dartmouth on a 16-acre parcel just off Interstate 195.
Company History
DBS Founder and CEO, Joe Delgado, began his entrepreneurial career as a drywall contractor. Out of necessity, he developed into a drywall dealer in order to ensure his growing business an uninterrupted supply of quality materials.
Twenty-five plus years later, Joe leads a multi-million dollar operation consisting of a core building materials supply business with an on-site millwork facility producing pre-hung doors and stairways. Additional ownership interests include a premier Kitchen Design Center and a land development company. DBS continues to thrive from Joe’s opportunity insights; key staff additions; and frequent facility and equipment upgrades.
As CEO Joe Delgado reflects, “Our customers have come to expect superior quality materials, timely deliveries and professional service from DBS. Going forward, we anticipate future expansions and ongoing improvements will optimize operations and further our reputation for excellence.”
Millwork Facilities
DBS’s Millwork Division operates within a recently built 54,000 square foot millwork facility and warehouse. Millwork activities include two highly-specialized product shops:
DBS Door Shop manufactures pre-hung interior doors in standard and custom sizes. We also produce “special use” doors to customer specifications for knee wall, crawlspace, attic access and other applications. The economic advantages of pre-hung doors far outweigh those of site-built or hung doors and are available in a multitude of styles, finishes and materials.
DBS Stair Shop designs and builds pre-assembled stairs of all descriptions including straight, curved, bowed and spiral stairs in traditional and contemporary designs. Pre-assembled stairs offer homeowners and builders greater cost advantages. For example, a standard straight staircase can take a finish carpenter at least eight hours to cutout and build whereas pre-assembled stairs can be completed in much less time.
Continued Growth
DBS has always been an avid leader in developing innovative ways to better serve its customers. The DBS Kitchen Design Center is a prime example. Launched in 1997, the unique retail operation was the area’s first kitchen design concept store. It provided homeowners, builders, architects and interior designers with a novel shopping experience offering expert design services and a showroom with attractively displayed working kitchens. Additionally, the center featured popular cooking demonstrations and culinary educational courses by professional chefs.
