Avila Construction Company

  In 1988, the foundation of what has now been built into Avila Construction was poured. Steve Avila started the company, then called Steve Avila Construction, working in the field himself.  Slowly, he hired other employees and began expanding, first running the business out of his home and then worked his way up to a small office, where the business was located until 2009. 

            In 1996, Steve incorporated the company, and shortly after, in 1997, Steve’s brother Mike became his partner. Having had a career at San Jose Construction before joining his brother, Mike had extensive knowledge in the management side of construction, and when paired with his brother’s depth of knowledge of field construction, the company began to grow steadily.  Mike took over the management of the commercial side of the company, while Steve focused on the residential side.  They employed this strategy so each would have a wealth of knowledge in one subject, instead of a broader understanding of two subjects.  Today, that division of work remains and aides in the company’s efficiency.  

            In 1998, Steve and Mike changed the name of the company to reflect their new partnership, calling it Avila Brothers, Inc. and dba Avila Construction Company.  Since 1997, Steve and Mike have collaborated on 1,052 projects, and that number continues to grow every week.  Both Steve and Mike credit their work ethic largely to their father (pictured to the left), whom they watched work in the construction industry as they grew up.  

            As the company expanded over the years, Steve and Mike were joined by their sister, Cynthia, who, along with Natalie Ranaud, manages the company’s accounting department.  Ted Wasson, who is now a project manager and well respected within the construction community, joined the company soon after Cynthia.  Jeff Nohr, who graduated from Fresno State with a Construction Management Degree, also works as a project manager, and is well respected in the community.  Following his graduation from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Finance degree and Construction Management minor, Steve’s son, Nick, joined Avila Construction Company and now works on both residential and commercial projects as a project manager.  

            Avila Construction has grown from the times of doing business out of Steve’s home with one phone line to what we are now, one of the most respected contractors in the area.  As we look to the future, we seek to continue our growth, both as a company and as people who are respected by the community.
