Scope Of Work
DESCRIPTION
The new North Carolina Specialty Hospital is in one of Durham’s fastest growing medical parks.
CHALLENGE
Subsurface soils consisted of uncontrolled silt, sand and clay fill with rubble and debris fill to depths of 5 to 24 ft. MACTEC’s original geotechnical report provided several options for mitigating these conditions. These options included deep foundations, dynamic compaction, undercutting and replacement, and Geopier technology.
SOLUTION
The Geopier technology was chosen because it addressed the settlement concerns and could penetrate the fill. It also allowed the project to stay on track, therefore saving time and a substantial amount of money.
