Scope Of Work

Early Package

Phase 1 Building Addition

Phase 2 Construction

C&L Contracting’s historical preservation and modernization of the Museum of the City of New York comprised three projects. The Early Package consisted of cellar and ground floor work with a new 20-foot glass gallery. The interior and exterior renovations included an adjoining terrace and expanding the existing terrace with a new paver system. Restoration work magnified the beauty of the historic lobby and courtyard, and featured new interior and exterior stonework, lighting fixtures, metal work, woodwork, stone flooring, and plaster.

The Phase 1 Building Addition to the Museum of the City of New York included 56,000 square-feet of renovations to the existing building. These new spaces included six galleries, administrative offices, three classrooms, public restrooms and a digital lab. The Museum of the City of New York also has a new loading dock and appropriate ADA access.

During the Phase 2 Construction, C&L Contracting revitalized the space with construction of a three-level addition, including 15,400 square-feet of space for the collections and a 3,000 square-foot glass pavilion, as well as a redesign and re-landscaped Fifth Avenue terrace. The vestibule and rotunda at the main entrance were restored and modernized with a newly constructed connection to the gallery. The theater and costume collections were rehoused in movable storage cabinets.
