Central Park Police Precinct Rehabilitation

Project Information

Project Location:
New York, NY
Status:
Completed
Structure Type:
Fire / Police Station

Scope Of Work

C&L Contracting’s renovation of the historic Central Park Precinct Station of the New York Police Department featured an updated and expanded new lobby with an atrium protected by bulletproof glass. Improving upon the previous station house, this new construction included superior staging, arrest processing and interview rooms.

New construction added 2,300 square feet more than the previous station house. The restored precinct’s lobby was originally a courtyard but is now enclosed with a lightweight metal canopy and self-supporting glass wall that protects the space from the elements while maintaining its transparency. Restoration was performed on the precinct’s stonework, dormer windows, doors and fixtures. Slate and copper roofing materials were employed to maintain the building’s historic integrity. The project also included conservation of the barn-loft doors and decorative Minton tile. Cast iron columns, once hidden in the masonry were revealed and the replica windows and doors match earlier decorative schemes. Mechanical ventilation and central air-conditioning were installed, and advanced security and communication systems upgraded the precinct station to a state-of-the-art facility.
