Our Story
We are committed to producing sustainable solid and engineered hardwood floors using Peruvian species from the Amazon. With fifteen years of experience in responsible forest management, we ensure that our products are legally sourced, and we are a proud supporter of several projects which guarantee our commitment to the environment and native Andean communities. Our entire production chain is FSC certified and our forest concessions are governed by the VCS and CCB Gold standards. We strive to be responsible by using preservation practices that support reforestation and balanced biodiversity. All of our products are proudly made in Peru. From the harvest of the tree to floor ready for installation, we contribute to environmental conservation and developing communities while promising quality from the start.
Conserving the Amazon
For generations, people and animals have been relying on the resources the rainforest provides. Selective extraction is a method of forest management that ensures there will be more trees in the future than there are in the present. This is the best rainforest conservation strategy because it allows young trees to mature. It also preserves wildlife habitats while serving people’s economic need for wood.
Selective Extraction
Each one of our trees are numbered with its species, diameter, and characteristics recorded in a census. Only certain trees will be extracted per the governments’ guidelines to allow new trees to grow. Trees that meet a minimum diameter and do not serve as a habitat for animals can be harvested. Once a plot has been harvested, it can’t be touched again for 20+ years.
Encouraging Biological Diversity
Forests that are rich in diversity have healthier ecosystems, because each species provides a different service. Some trees are better at feeding wildlife while others excel at storing carbon. Harvesting trees that are lesser known internationally can reduce the stress on more commonly used species, and improve the ecosystems that rely on them. Peru’s timber market contains 237 species with clear comparative advantages.
Building with Renewable Resources that Store Carbon
Trees are a renewable resource. When a large tree is extracted, several young trees grow in its place. Studies show that young trees are carbon sponges—soaking up 11 times more carbon than their predecessors. Even after a tree is cut, and made into products, the wood continues to store carbon.
Lean Manufacturing
All wood beneath the wear layer of our solid core engineered flooring is constructed from recycled materials that are bi-products of our solid hardwood flooring production. This lean manufacturing process minimizes waste and optimizes the amount of flooring produced from every tree. Any leftover wood from flooring production is used to make furniture and décor.
Our Quality Standards
Our woods are air dried in the Amazonian natural environment then kiln dried to the required moisture levels. This meaningful process allows for a more dimensionally-stable and durable floor. Our flooring is finished in our factory with eight layers of aluminum oxide and two layers of UV light. This deluxe process allows for scratch and abrasion resistance delivering a durable, easy to maintain flooring, which is what a beautiful home deserves.
Strengthening Local Communities
We are a proud sponsor and supporter of the development of local Andean communities. We maintain a strong commitment to these native communities living in our area of influence by supporting and empowering them to carry out self-managed activities and projects. We have lead various social initiatives in the province of Tahuamanu, Madre de Dios, located in the Peruvian Jungle. Our ecotourism project trains the Belgica Native Community on how to develop infrastructure for a tourism market by creating handcrafted items from seeds.
