VIP Structures and Feidler Marciano Architecture were hired by 219 South West LLC to design and renovate the former Gateway Building in Armory Square. VIP Structures served as Construction Manager for New York City-based Feidler Marciano.

VIP Structures and Feidler Marciano Architecture were hired by 219 South West LLC to design and renovate the former Gateway Building in Armory Square. VIP Structures served as Construction Manager for New York City-based Feidler Marciano. Located on South West Street in Syracuse, the renovation of the 110 year-old building included offices, recording studios, rehearsal spaces and residential suites on the top floor.
Renovations to the space also included a wide-range of work on the brick façade plus signage and the construction of a new entrance tower in the rear of the building. The interior space required extensive shoring and leveling in order to properly house the new recording spaces. The existing wood framed floor system was entirely removed and replaced with a new concrete and steel structure that allowed complete acoustic and vibration separation of the recording studios. The close proximity to an active railroad line made this separation critical and very challenging.
SubCat clients and visitors can find everything necessary to produce recorded products on its three levels. The exceptionally hospitable environment includes an artist lounge, a repair shop for recording equipment and an instrument room loaded with top-of-the-line equipment. The third floor consists of three apartments for use by musicians using the studio or actors at the Redhouse Theater.
