Scope Of Work
The TWA Hotel is comprised of two seven-story buildings joined together by Saarinen’s iconic Flight Center, restored to as the hotel’s lobby. Restoration efforts also included the “flight tubes” that provide passengers and hotel guests with direct access to JetBlue’s Terminal 5. Hotel features include a rooftop power plant; six restaurants and eight bars; a 50,000 square foot conference center, and a 10,000 square foot observation/pool deck.
The project’s successful completion was the result of effective pre-planning and operational excellence. For example, a dynamic site protection plan was implemented to ensure the structural integrity of the landmarked buildings construction. In addition, a dewatering program was developed to remove more than 500 million gallons of water to allow for foundations to be set 25-ft below the Jamaica Bay water table.
