Scope Of Work
The Culinary Institute at Greystone’s Vineyard Lodge Expansion was completed in 2010 and houses 60 culinary students from across the country. Healthy Buildings is proud of the finished product, and even prouder to have been involved in the construction of one of the first LEED®-rated dormitories in the country. The institute was adamant about building a dormitory that had as little impact on the environment as possible. The partnership with Healthy Buildings as project manager, LEED® consultant and general contractor proved to be a successful collaboration for all.
The Vineyard Lodge is a prime example of how smart design decisions and experience in building green can result in a high-performance building with little added cost over conventional construction.
Healthy Buildings would like to extend its thanks to The Culinary Institute for pioneering such a successful project and helping to advance sustainable building in the Napa Valley.
A 60-unit green and healthy dormitory that was one of the first dormitories to be LEED rated
olar electric—An 18-KW photovoltaic system provides 30% of the building’s energy
Solar hot water—A highly efficient solar hot water system provides 100% of the dormitory’s hot water needs during clear days
Efficient HVAC—A highly efficient and programmable VRV (variable refrigerant volume) HVAC system saves money for the institute.
Passive heating and cooling—Building orientation and increased glazing, a light colored roof, and increased insulation throughout the living areas and attic help keep the dormitory cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
