Murphy McCullough leads Skanska USA Commercial Development, which
delivers customer-focused, highly sustainable office, mixed-use and
multi-family properties across the United States.
As President and CEO, Murphy is responsible for setting strategic
direction - with focus on growing Skanska’s development operations in
its existing markets in Boston, Houston, Seattle, Washington D.C. and
Los Angeles; improving operational effectiveness and efficiency; and
evaluating new market expansion opportunities.
Murphy’s career brings more than 25 years of experience in real
estate development overseeing all development activities in the market
from land acquisition through divestment.
Earlier in his tenure, he served as Executive Vice President and
Regional Manager at Skanska USA Commercial Development, Seattle. Most
recently, he led the 2+U/Qualtrics Tower project in downtown Seattle.
Built with community at the forefront, the more than 680,000 square
feet and 527-feet tall structure is Skanska's largest development
investment globally to date. Since joining Skanska in 2011, Murphy has
been integral in delivering Skanska development firsts in the Greater
Seattle region, including Tommy Bahama's headquarters and Market Hall
in South Lake Union and Stone34, the Brooks Sports headquarters in
Fremont - Seattle’s first living building pilot program participant.
Additionally, his team was instrumental in securing and developing 400
Fairview as well as Alley111 apartments in downtown Bellevue,
Skanska’s first multi-family development in the U.S.
Prior to Skanska, Murphy worked on a number of Seattle's large-scale
developments, most notable, Fourth & Madison and Harbor Steps, a
mixed-use development consisting of two residential towers with
retail, hotel and a civic urban park open to the public.
Murphy holds a B.S. in construction management and commercial real
estate from the University of Washington. He is an advisory board
member for the Runstad Department for Real Estate, a board member for
Skanska USA Commercial Development national operations, and an active
member of the Downtown Seattle Association, which focuses on
championing a healthy, vibrant urban core. He is the former Chair of
the City of Seattle's Downtown Design Review Board.
