Scope Of Work

The challenge in any contemporary project or design is the execution of the highly complicated processes or movements that on the outside appear effortless. The FAR gate was no exception.

We were asked to take the lead in assembling a team that could conceptualize, fabricate, and install this unique piece in this beautiful space designed by architect, Malane Benedetto. This came together as a collaboration between Loren Wood Builders, Clutch fabrication and Brownsmith Studios.

Brownsmith Studios created a 3D model of the custom gate, addressing ADA compliance and modeling the complex louver system. Clutch fabrication provided intuitive problem solving, real-world practical knowledge, and flawless fabrication, and LWB managed the overall build, preparing the site and coordinating the installation.

Of particular difficulty were Brownsmith Studio’s design and execution of a locking louver system complete with Spanish Cedar slats affixed to steel rods. The design allowed for a floating appearance controlled simultaneously by a locking lever and bearing system, all neatly concealed in the framework of the gate structure. The gate was finished in a black powder coat and installed with minimal bracing to the adjacent structure in an effort to maintain the sleek design.

Completed and installed, the gate finishes the West elevation of the FAR Gallery, complementing this beautiful building in downtown Bloomington.
