Scope Of Work

The school is 61,000 sq. ft. in size, it has 20 classrooms and five specialty classrooms. The design of the school allows space to add more classrooms if needed. Other building features include a library, media center, art and computer classrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium and a regulation-sized basketball court which was donated by the Oklahoma City Thunder. The project includes two symbolic features; the Panther mural from the destroyed Plaza Towers was saved and is now displayed at the entrance of the new school and at the entrance of the school there is a memorial dedicated to the seven students who lost their lives on May 20, 2013. The memorial includes silhouettes of seven children with personal touches that represent each child. Seven benches outside the school also pay tribute to the children.

The school was designed and built with the safety of the children being the top priority. The kindergarten classrooms were built as Federal Emergency Management Agency-grade storm shelters. The rooms are cast-in-place concrete structures that can hold up to 816 people. The shelter includes four rest rooms with a water source that is separate from the rest of the building. The shelter exceeds FEMA regulations and provides safe shelter for the entire school.

The school was also designed with an entry that allows access control. There is one main entrance point at the front of the building. When people enter the building they will immediately be directed through the administration office to be checked into the school. The entry creates a balance between a user friendly environment and a facility that is secure from unwanted intruders.
