Scope Of Work
PECO, located in Philadelphia, is the largest electric and gas distributor in Pennsylvania. Adjacent to their Headquarters building is a tree-lined patio that overlooks the Schuylkill River. Beautiful granite steps serve as the entrance to the patio.
Unfortunately, the steps were difficult to see, especially at night, and became extremely slippery when wet.
PECO was tired of people slipping on the steps and the associated liability, but they did not want the great expense and inconvenience involved with replacing or covering the steps.
For years, PECO had been looking for a cost-effective option to increase safety and improve visibility for its employees and customers. They could not find a product that had good adhesion to the granite and lasted more than more than a few months.
Form-A-Tread to the rescue!
Initially, PECO purchased a Kit of Form-A-Tread Safety Yellow for a test installation on the steps. Fortunately, Form-A-Tread has excellent adhesion to all common building surfaces like stone and masonry. The Safety Yellow color significantly increased visibility on the steps as well. After a few months, the installation was 100% intact with minimum wear. PECO was so impressed they immediately installed Form-A-Tread Safety Yellow on the entire staircase.
A year later, the Form-A-Tread is still 100% intact and life of installation is estimated to be 4+ years.
