Scope Of Work

The Sentara Hospital was an expansion of an existing outpatient ambulatory surgical center that allowed the maintenance of ongoing functions during construction. This facility provides an Emergency Room, Central Sterile, Central Receiving, Central Utility Plant, Conference Facilities, Operating Rooms, Pre, Post and PACU, In-patient private bedrooms, ICU and CCU, LDR and Radiology Imaging services including MRI, CT Scan, Endoscopy, Angiography, EP and CATH Labs and Straight Radiographic Imaging. It also has a cafeteria and a full commercial kitchen.

Three guiding principals dictated the design:

1. Continue the aesthetic of the existing 2-story facility into the much more massive 5-story hospital

2. Functionally place large nursing units on each in-patient floor for staff efficiency yet minimize the distances staff and visitors must walk.

3. Continue the importance of "water" to the Hampton, VA area as an aesthetic theme.
