Scope Of Work

The East Bed Tower Expansion of Halifax Regional Hospital is designed to meet the demand for all-private inpatient bedrooms at a rapidly growing regional hospital. This project provides two floors of vertical expansion over the existing hospital. To meet current best practice standards, Odell utilized a creative structural solution to allow the floor plates of the two new upper floors to cantilever beyond the exterior walls of the existing hospital. This extension provides additional square footage with which Odell was able to provide a code compliant and operationally progressive floor layout.

Twenty-four medical-surgical beds and four isolation bedrooms are organized around a generous 16 foot wide circulation spine, which includes clinical, staff and visitor support spaces. The new patient bedrooms are designed to achieve maximum patient convenience and safety, functional efficiency and natural light.
