Scope Of Work

Engelhard Corporation, now BASF, is part of the world's largest chemical company. In order to meet market demands, it called on The Austin Company to provide complete design-build services to expand their current manufacturing facility.

The project involved a 14,840 SF addition to the existing DOC building and a 10,570 SF addition to the Raw Materials Warehouse. The new building is approximately 70 feet wide and extends the full north-south length of the existing building, which is approximately 361 feet.

The facility, which manufactures a ceramic catalyst coating that is used for emissions reduction in diesel trucks, now gives the client the ability increase their product line with an enhanced version of their current products.

Built under an accelerated construction schedule, The Austin Company was faced with the challenge keeping the current facility in constant operation. As part of the expansion, The Austin Company had to modify the current structure to allow for the expansion, before any new construction could begin. The new building also had to be designed to allow for future expansion, without any additional modifications. Some features of this project included the design and construction of an x-ray room and process support platforms.
