Scope Of Work

Work at the new Pierce Terrace Elementary School project at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC to include approximately 75,000 CY of earthwork, 12,500 SF of new bio retention ponds, 2,800 LF of new RCP storm drains, 3,000 LF of PVC roof drains, clearing, erosion control, emergency access roads, etc.  The site is approximately 20 acres and is part of the effort to replace the existing elementary school currently in use on site.  The tentative start date for this project is mid October 2017.

10-6-17 - Mach 1 has started to clear for the installation of silt fence.  We are set to start fence next week and the clearing for the rest of the site once silt fence is installed to follow soon after.  Please check back for job site photographs.

10-19-17 - Crews are nearly complete with silt fence and have started clearing the site.  The temporary access road is being built now which is approximately 900' long by 20' wide and consists of a layer of fabric underneath 8'' of recycled asphalt material as base, which helps to control dust.  Once the road is built, next up is the construction lay down area that is also an 8'' layer of recycled asphalt approximately 185' long by 120' wide.  After all temporary roads and lay down areas are built, we can proceed with excavation of the detention pond area.  Check back soon for more updates!

10-25-17 - The temporary access road has been graded, temporary culverts installed and the lay down area is being brought to grade now.  Between building the lay down area and clearing for detention ponds, etc., Mach 1 is also screening top soil in house with its Power Screen Warrior 600 screening unit.  We hope to start placing recycled asphalt as the base material for the road once the concrete apron is installed at the entrance by others.  Check back soon for more updates!

11-15-17 - We've finished up all clearing and have installed mulch berms around the site to help bolster the erosion BMPs.  The construction access road and lay down areas are now rocked and ready to go so next up on the list, we have two scrapers and a push dozer being delivered to the site tomorrow to start moving the mass dirt.  We will also be receiving the first round of storm pipe and structures so we can build the detention pond and work tandem with the grading so that we install certain storm lines before the deep fills go in.  This saves us time and is less likely to cause a safety hazard by not having to excavate as deep to install the storm lines.  Check back soon for more updates!

12-7-17 - The team has been working nights and weekends over the past month to get ahead of schedule and the weather with the Winter months upon us.  Our scrapers are running smoothly and getting great production and the storm drains are running tandem with our fill operations.  This allows us to decrease our trenching depths by laying the storm lines within fill areas as fills come up, which means we save time and money but more importantly, we decrease the safety issues that may arise the deeper you excavate.  Just another example of our commitment to safety, quality and production!  Our goal is to have the building pad ready by the end of next week, or two weeks ahead of the newest schedule that was actually bumped up due to our great progress.  We not only meet your expectations, we continually exceed them!  Check back soon for more updates!

1-8-18 - It's been a busy 4 weeks at Pierce Terrace Elementary School!  Our crew worked tirelessly to ensure the building pad was to grade by January 2nd , which was when footing excavation was to commence.  Mach 1, in true fashion, had the work completed ahead of schedule as we were able to turn over the pad by December 23rd!  With the New Year upon us, we are excited to wind down the earthwork operations and continue moving forward with the installation of the storm drains, bio retention ponds and roof drains.  Check back soon for more updates!

2-27-18 - Wow we've been busy!  Our stellar pipe crews just finished up the remaining storm drainage for this project and now we are gearing up to put in the 3,000+ LF of roof drains.  Meanwhile, we've also been doing work for Palmetto State Utility Services, who handles utility installations at several bases around the country.  They reached out to us to assist them with emergency water line repairs at several locations around Fort Jackson and thus far, they have been very impressed with the speed and accuracy at which we zero in on the problem and get it corrected, with minimal disruption to base activities.  Do you need someone like Mach 1 on your projects?  Please contact Tadd Swartz at 989-239-1898 and let's see what we can do for you!

4-16-18 - Mach 1 crews have been diligently working to push this project forward to the point where now our work is way ahead of the overall schedule!  Roof drain main lines are complete but until the building walls go up and downspouts are installed, the 6'' laterals to the building are on hold.  Screening of topsoil by our Power Screen Warrior 600 is moving along nicely and we are working with the Contractor to get the parking lots and main access drives paved to protect our work and to provide additional parking and laydown areas for the many new faces that show up each day to work in the building.

5-24-18 - Mach 1 is currently not on site as we are waiting for the construction of the new building to progress enough to where we can come back to finish up the remaining roof drains and cut out for subgrades for the access roads and parking areas.  Recently we were awarded the site paving scope of work as the GC agrees that having someone like Mach 1 assume the responsibility of insuring the roads and parking lots are up to our standard of quality, will allow them to concentrate on the complete build out of the new school.  Construction is a team sport and Mach 1 is dedicated to being there when our team mates need us the most!  Check back soon for more updates!

July 13, 2018 - Mach 1 is back on site to install the aggregate base for the roads and parking areas.  We have contracted with Spalding Concrete Company out of Griffin, GA to help us move this project closer to completion!  Check back soon for more updates!

August 2, 2018 - After installation of aggregate base rock, the curb subcontractor was able to perform their work.  The Owner does not want to install any asphalt until later in the project so it does not get damaged so we are no longer on site at the moment but we will be going back in the near future to begin screening and spreading top soil ahead of the landscaper.  The current global climate regarding the potential for blockades of major oil shipping routes may cause undue stress on the price of oil, which may negatively impact asphalt prices.  Mach 1 is working with the General Contractor to convince the Owner that it would be in the project's best interest to at least place the binder course of asphalt.  This would have a positive impact overall on the project by keeping costs down, providing additional parking space for other trades, protection of installed aggregate base and for potential lay down areas.  Check back soon for more updates.

September 13, 2018 - Currently we are not on site in order to allow for more work to progress with the building.  We hope to re-mobilize toward the end of October and at that time, we should be clear to finish the roof drain connections, install our asphalt binder course, potentially start work in our bio retention ponds and possibly install the "EZ Roll" gravel paver system for the emergency access road around the new building.  Check back soon for more updates!

July 9, 2019 - Well what a ride!  Mach 1 has been working on this project off and on as the overall progress allows and now we are in the home stretch.  Crews are in the process of completing the emergency access road around the beautiful new elementary school as constructed by Poettker Construction.  NDS out of California provided the porous gravel paver system for the access road and all things considered, the product is going in the ground nicely.  Some recent hot weather had us working some nights to avoid the stresses of working in such conditions.  The asphalt topping course is going down this week and all that will be left is minor clean up and removal of the construction road, which we anticipate happening sometime in August.  Check back soon for more updates!
