Scope Of Work
Traditional Hard Coat Stucco System
In the past, the only stucco used in homes was traditional or hard coat stucco. The first step in hard coat stucco installation, similarly to EIFS is the TYVEK or any other brand of waterproofing paper application. With this system we apply either two layers of 30 lb felt paper or one layer of TYVEK. Next, a self furring 2.5 or 3.5 galvanized wire lathe is attached directly to insulated substrate. The metal lath ultimately holds the stucco to the wall. Then, the actual hard coat stucco, which is made mostly of cement, is applied directly to the metal lath with a trowel and is allowed to set or dry. The process of applying the stucco and allowing it to set is repeated:
Hard coat stucco typically consists of a scratch coat (1st coat), a brown coat (2nd coat), and ELASTOMERIC colored finish coat. Since hard coat stucco is made of cement , which is porous, it breaths and naturally prevents moisture buildup.
The entire system is installed with weep screed panel located on the very bottom of the wall, elevated at least 8″ from the grade and paving.
Drip edges, flashing, window insulation tapes, TYVEK tapes, backer rods, caulking, expansion joints, corner beads, J channels and many other materials are being installed during the stucco installation progress, according to the Manufacture’s specifications.
