Scope Of Work
Hunter Roberts completed two contracts for The Salvation Army: the remediation of 24-plus acres of the former Harrison Avenue Landfill, and the construction of the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Camden, NJ. The Salvation Army’s goal was to provide Camden with a 124,818 SF state-of-the-art facility that reflects their mission of providing a “beacon of hope” to the local community. The building was designed and constructed with sustainable features.
Hunter Roberts removed and disposed of 15 tons of contaminated soil during the remediation. 80,000 yards of municipal solid waste was excavated from under the building and replaced with clean fill.
Project features include the Town Plaza, which serves as the gateway to all of the Center’s activities and as a hall for large gatherings; a 200-seat Performing Arts Theater anchors the entertainment performance activities and has a large operable wall allowing for interaction between the Town Plaza and the Theater; and the 400-person capacity Worship Center with the adjoining Family Learning & Education Classrooms. Other features on this side of the Center include: a Health and Wellness Clinic, Computer & Technology Lab, Early Childhood Learning Center (90 Students), Administration Offices, Food Services / Cafeteria, Full Service Kitchen, Counseling Offices, Client Choice Food Pantry, Arts & Crafts Room, Back of House Facilities, and Music Room.
On the other side of Town Plaza are the physical and recreational activity areas including: Basketball Courts, Locker rooms, Aquatics Center with both an eight-lane, 25-yard Competition Pool and an Aquatic Relaxation / Activity Pool, Senior Center, Teen Center, Drop-Off Babysitting Center, Cardio / Fitness Areas, Party & Team Rooms, Dance Studios, and Administrative offices.
The Outdoor Space includes Baseball Fields, Picnic/Playground Area, Volleyball Courts, Parking, Basketball Courts, Concession Building, Soccer Fields, Maintenance Building, and a Walking & Jogging Path.
