Kenova Elementary School

Project Information

Project Location:
Kenova, WV
Status:
Completed
Structure Type:
Education (K-12)

Scope Of Work

Kenova, West Virginia is small city named for the convergence of three States: Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. Kenova Elementary is the lone public education facility within the Kenova city limits, serving several hundred students, and proud of the multiple national blue ribbons it has won for academic achievement. The school was forced to abruptly close its doors – before the official end of the school year - due to a problem it had never dealt with in over one hundred years of existence: sink holes throughout the school property. Structural engineers agreed those sink holes had sunk the existing school for good. Everyone wondered “where would the kids go to begin the new school year in September?”

While the school district made plans for a new permanent building, WillScot’s modular solutions came to the rescue. Fifty-two modular classroom components, repurposed from a two-story classroom building coming off lease in Upper Dalton, Pennsylvania, arrived and formed the temporary facility.

The new modular Kenova Elementary School, constructed on the old high school football field, has a cafeteria, teacher lounges, restrooms, two computer labs and modular administrative offices. WillScot, using local subcontractors, provided a complete turn-key solution consisting of utility connections, foundations, sidewalks, bus lanes, and a fire alarm and sprinkler system within an extremely accelerated schedule.

Once again, our modular solutions helped a school go forward and not under.
