Scope Of Work
The Burlington Community School District named a new middle school after Burlington, Iowa native Aldo Leopold who is considered by many to be the father of wildlife management and of the United States’ wilderness system. Opened and dedicated to the American author, conservationist, forester and outdoor enthusiast, this middle school houses 27 classrooms, 4 computer labs, offices, cafeteria, auditorium, gymnasium and indoor track. The facility can accommodate 500 students in grades 6 through 8.
Carrying on the tradition of its namesake, the school district has teamed with the Leopold Heritage Group to install an outdoor classroom to teach the students about nature. The plan calls for creating several rock outcrops, low earthen berms, a 525-foot winding trail, shelter house, bird-feeding station and circular stone seating area.
