Bently Biofuels Outpost Gas Station

Project Information

Project Location:
Minden, NV
Status:
Completed
Structure Type:
Gas Station

Scope Of Work

The Bently Biofuels Outpost is the first retail convenience store certified to  (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards by the US Green Building Council. Their goal is to minimize energy consumption and lessen their carbon footprint by minimizing the use of fossil fuels not only in our vehicles but also in the operation of their facilities. The retail station is heated by a solar thermal array and biomass boiler. Electricity is offset by a photovoltaic array installed on the fuel canopy.

The 3,600 sq. ft. facility consists of a wood framed structure, metal roof panels, recycled brick wainscot, low maintenance polished concrete that is free of chemical coatings.

The furnishings include cabinets made of fast-growing bamboo plywood and countertops made from recycled materials. The building was designed to maximize energy efficiency. Skylights light the main store in the day. Solar tubes, cylindrical portals with powerful lenses, light the bathrooms. Hot water and heat are provided by solar thermal panels behind the store. The building materials were solicited from local suppliers to save on transportation costs. Site clean-up followed special criteria, including the recycling of scrap products.
