Scope Of Work

A Texas mass transit customer needed a durable floor coating applied in their Lewisville, Texas light rail operations and maintenance facility. This environment requires a coating system that is high impact/abrasion and chemical resistant, in addition, the coating needed to be applied with a minimal impact to operations. PolySeal Coating Solutions was contracted to apply this steel gray, General Polymers Trafficote 105 Epoxy Slurry for this project.

A coating system this durable requires a multi-step preparation process; surface preparation began with shot blasting, which was done with our Blastrac D10 self-propelled shot blaster. We utilized Blastrac 7” hand grinders with 12 segment cup wheel for the crack detailing and isolation. In addition, our staff performed divot and blemish filling and floating, as well as saw cut and expansion joint filling, all while our Ruwac T250 heavy duty dust collector kept the surrounding area clean. Once the floor was prepped we masked off all of the areas that would not receive coating.

The coating included the application of a 100% solids low viscosity, penetrating epoxy prime coat, followed by a 100% solids aggregate filled, high build epoxy slurry coat. This was followed by a 20-40 mesh sand broadcast to rejection (broadcast into wet slurry), a 100% solids rapid cure epoxy grout coat, and 100% solids chemical resistant, gloss epoxy top coat.

Our team utilized a Midwest Rake, adjustable gauge rake for the application, which allowed us to apply a consistent 1/8” thick (120 mils) coating. We completed the coating of this 44,000 square foot facility in just 15 working days.
