Scope Of Work
At PolySeal Coating Solutions we specialize in abrasive blasting and industrial painting for customers in a wide range of industries. The project highlighted here required industrial cleaning and coating for the pipe yard of a power generation facility. This pipeline is the primary power source for the facilities gas-fired burner which drives the turbine that generates electricity. The pipe was heavily corroded, and if left unchecked could have affected the structural integrity of the entire energy delivery system.
The surface preparation for this project consisted of abrasive blast cleaning, which met SSPC-SP6 standards for surface cleanliness, and was blast profile tested per ASTM standards. This was followed by a blow-down using compressed air, and the application of an epoxy filler to float all divots and pitting.
The coating consisted of the application of PPG Amerlock 2, 83% solids, surface tolerant epoxy prime coat, followed by PPG PSX700, 90% solids, inorganic polysiloxane top coat. This was applied using a Graco Ultra Max 1095 airless sprayer. The GP&L tan colored coating was applied to a thickness of 5-7 mils, and received environmental condition and dry film thickness testing, also per ASTM standards.
This project which consisted of 600 lineal feet of carbon steel pipe ranging in diameter from 20” to 36” was completed in just 4 working days.
