Scope Of Work
This project required the repair of a spalling concrete wall in the larger of two locks constituting the “Ballard Locks” of the Lake Washington Ship Canal. These canal navigation locks are the site of constant activity as each year 60,000 vessels of all sizes and types use the system around the clock, seven days a week. Because of this, the lock could only be taken out of service for a short time. Rising to the challenge, Doyon Project Services completed the work in nine days. The deteriorated area was roughly 70′ x 5′, located near the top of the lock, and as deep as 4″ to 6″ in the worst spots. Doyon crews gained access using a Hydro-Mobile Swing Stage, which was suspended by cables and pulleys and counterbalanced by weights held in place by scaffolding on the sidewalk adjacent to the lock.
