Scope Of Work
KPH Construction provided all labor, equipment, tools, materials, and supervision necessary to create a unique café space within New Berlin West Middle/High School’s Idea and Learning Center. This new café fits seamlessly in and provides students with an exciting coffee shop experience that is easily accessible between classes. The café is part of the school’s curriculum as a teacher-led program that allows students to plan menu items, run and organize the café, and serve fellow students throughout the school day. As part of the project, KPH was able to transform under utilized spaces and unused work rooms for a new storage area to support the café and a sleek new conference room that can support larger staff and school meetings.
KPH started the project while school was still in session with the goal of having the café open and fully operational for the following school year. To accomplish this, KPH utilized Spring Break to get the heavy demolition completed and working off hours for other demolition and prep work completed. KPH provided a solid temporary partition to protect students and existing conditions from the work that was being performed. This gave KPH a good head start and allowed for the space to be completed prior to students returning in the fall. Other challenges were unknown electrical duct banks in the floor along with plumbing waste connections that could not meet proper drainage requirements. To resolve these issues, KPH worked with the school to abandon the unused electrical duct banks and to locate a nearby plumbing waste line that allowed for proper drainage but required opening up and patching the floor in a main hallway.
