Stewart Home School provides hope and support for intellectually disabled people and their families. Schaefer is proud to take part in the growth of this dynamic school.

Expanding the Reach

With existing dorms filled to capacity, there was an over-whelming demand for more space. Schaefer was selected to build a three-story addition to an existing three-story dorm. When completed, the addition included private dorm rooms in the lower level and second floor. On the first floor, students are now able to enjoy a spacious dining room complete with a full kitchen.

A True Match

Masonry-bearing walls and pre-stressed concrete plank flooring were specified by the architect to ensure the addition will not only blend with the existing, historical structures, but also last for many, many years. The new addition was finished to match the existing building, creating a seamless transition between old and new.

Next Steps

As the dorm addition was under construction, Stewart Home school contracted Schaefer to renovate
a second dorm building and perform an HVAC retrofit in the gymnasium.
