Vander Mill Ciders

Scope Of Work:

Vader Mill is a 52,000 sq. ft. cider production facility, storage, and distributions warehouse. A 4,300 square foot taproom and restaurant offer a capacity for 200 where guests can step onto a suspended interior restaurant balcony for an interactive experience of the cider production facility. A multilevel outdoor dining patio invites patrons outside for gatherings around a stone fire pit.

Working closely with a creative business owner presented a great opportunity to add unique decor and elements throughout the entire facility; from lighting fixtures, to reclaimed hardware and wood, poured concrete countertops, many elements needed to work together in the overall design and function of the facility. The owner utilized reclaimed wood planks salvaged from old apple crates, as a backdrop for the dining area and throughout the building.

The cider production area roof required additional height of four feet to accommodate stainless steel silo tanks. The entire roof was removed and re-installed. The front of the building required a raised roof of and additional six feet.

A giant slab of 270,000 lbs. of concrete was poured for the production area. A suspended mezzanine balcony over the production area was added to allow patrons to experience the production process.

The production facility, taproom, and restaurant are located at 505 Ball Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI. Originally based in Spring Lake, MI, Vander Mill's added location is similar to craft breweries while the adjacent production facility offers the increased capacity to produce approximately one million gallons of cider per year.
