Scope Of Work
PROJECT AT A GLANCE
- Reliving platform pile cap repair, utilizing galvanized steel channels and through bolts.
- Pile posting to replace old pile deteriorated by marine borers. With new treated timber and steel strapping.
- Underwater concrete pile jackets, covering the new posted piles. The jackets will be protecting the newly replaced piles.
- Underwater shoring of the deteriorated horizontal sheeting between the pile cap and fill above.
After a few days on the job the MTE diving team realized the need for overhead shoring. The fill above the piles and cap began to collapse on the divers. We were using a diver operated water dredge, excavating for the concrete encasement of the piles.
The project started out as a concrete encasement with pile jackets and due to the skill of the MTE divers and the onsite professional engineering support by MTE Solutions LLC. The Port Authority entrusted us to replace additional piles and redesign the repair. In doing so we made the underwater repairs diver friendly, which in turn increased the daily production and the structural stability of the pier.
The close working relationship between the; Commercial Diving Marine Supervisor in the field, The Structural Engineer in the office and the Project Manager in between, made a professional team in which the Port Authority in house engineer entrusted with repairing the pier in a safe, efficient and solid manor.
