Scope Of Work

Design professionals, enthusiasts, and curious passersby were drawn to never-before-seen illuminated displays in the heart of Times Square during NYCxDESIGN from May 12-20.

Duggal chose   City’s annual celebration  design spanning all five boroughs and more than a dozen disciplines to introduce its next generation  visual displays, LUMIPIXELS™, from Duggal InnoLab. As the print and production partner for Design Pavilion, Duggal was one  only four exhibitors in the Inflate Pavilion, the central hub  NYCxDESIGN, where LUMIPIXELS™ made their public debut. Duggal InnoLab hosted a VIP reception in Times Square to kick off the nine-day event.

By employing proprietary light tiles, LUMIPIXELS™ create a uniquely harmonious blend of light and graphics. Light emotes through pre-programmed sequences of pure white or full-color animation filtered by fabric.

“We imagined making a static illuminated image emote in a beautiful and artful way,” said Glenn Rabbach, Vice President and Creative Director of Duggal Visual Solutions. “Everyone has seen large digital billboards; however, no technology existed to craft a hybrid of video walls and a static lightbox. We created a source of addressable lighting in tiles of white and RGBW lights that makes a static image come to life.”

At Design Pavilion, Rabbach and his team recreated Duggal InnoLab’s sleek, award-winning architectural display with Hunter Douglas. The winner of the “Most Innovative Booth” Award at the 2018 Architectural Digest Design Show, the installation blends digital content with a traditional soft fabric light box. The combination of static and moving imagery provides a dramatic, scenic background to Hunter Douglas’ AI-controlled window treatments. A companion display featured a collaboration with Swiss artist/director Fabian Oefner using LUMIPIXELS™ to bring a  sense  motion to his striking art photography.

Duggal also produced many other prominent elements seen throughout Times Square during the week, including interactive environments for Herman Miller and   Magazine, along with furniture pieces, silver Dibond pylons, and a large NYCxDESIGN billboard. Thank you to everyone who joined us in turning Times Square into the ultimate visual design showcase.
