Scope Of Work
The work on this project included erection of a full-sized model of the D.C. Vietnam Wall, construction of a welcome center, military museum, a pavilion, and an honor flag memorial.
The first phase of the project included construction of a full-scale black granite model of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial identical to that on the National Mall in Washington D.C. One hundred forty-four black granite panels were installed on two supporting concrete walls that are each 246.75 feet long. The black granite panels came from the same quarry in Bangalore, India as the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial and are etched with the names of more than 58,000 Americans who gave their lives in service to their country.
Two buildings were constructed on the project and include the Welcome Center, which is a 4,000 square foot building that overlooks the memorial. It features a gift shop, an event chapel area, and a media room. The second building is the Military Museum, a 4,500 square foot building that provides a place for visitors to learn about the history of the American military and America’s veterans. A 1,600 square foot pavilion with a covered walkway was constructed and adjoins the two buildings.
The Honor Flag Memorial is a large, concave structure, stretching 50 feet along the Welcome Center’s western edge. Each granite section pays homage to America’s conflicts and branches of the military, with laser-etched illustrations and typography.
