Scope Of Work
SITUATION:
Brandeis University engaged BOND to provide preconstruction and construction management services for its new Skyline Residence Hall. The 54,000 SF, 164-bed residence hall features the following: new common space for students with large kitchen, study spaces, four lounges, a kitchen and a courtyard. Elevators and a main stairway allow for easier movement between floors. A complete renovation of the beloved Chum Coffee House in the adjoining Usen Castle was also included in the project.
CHALLENGES:
Maintain an aggressive schedule to deliver building in time for fall semester
Work with planning teams to develop a detailed schedule for preconstruction and construction process to minimize disruption to an active campus
Manage logistical challenges of a tight site in a busy area of campus
Provide design assist services for the exterior curtainwall / glass rainscreen façade assembly
SOLUTIONS:
Solar panels on the roof partially power the building to help with peak campus electricity demand management.
Creation of detail mitigation plans and protocols ensure safe conditions
Geothermal wells provide all heating, cooling, and domestic hot water, eliminating the need for any fossil fuels
Comprehensive subcontractor prequalification and award process ensured the right expertise, craftsmanship and attitude on the project
RESULTS:
LEED Gold certification
Delivery of environmentally-responsible project on track, within budget
The new building opened fall 2018 and is currently the most sustainable building on campus
