Phoenician Construction LLC is owned by Ross and John Defiel, lifelong
residents of the Valley. They grew up in the shadow of Camelback Mountain in a modern
custom home designed by their father Michael B. Defiel, a well-known Scottsdale
architect. They have been immersed in architectural design and construction their entire lives.
Their father Michael Defiel partnered with Benny Gonzales, Dick McIntyre, and
other outstanding architects on numerous office and residential projects throughout
Arizona and beyond. The Scottsdale Library, the Scottsdale City Courts Building, and the
Sunburst Hotel are just a small sample of Michael Defiel’s work and architectural style.
His modern contemporary style was influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and is evident in
all his work in the Valley since 1958.
Besides an interest in architecture, Michael Defiel instilled in his sons the value of
a job well done the first time.
Ross and John Defiel both graduated from Scottsdale High School and completed
two years of Construction Methods Vocational Technical School. Both Defiel brothers
are Master Carpenters with over 60 years of combined experience in both remodeling and
new construction of residential and commercial projects. Their jobs and projects over the
years have given them a wide range of experience in many fields, as well as contacts with
many architectural professionals and sub-contractors. Some of the commercial projects
on which Ross and John worked are the Sunburst Hotel at Scottsdale Road and Chaparral
(now the Fireside Inn Hotel), Apples Scottsdale Restaurant, Status Salon in Scottsdale
and Personal Touch Catering. They have also worked on numerous new custom homes
and residential remodels. A list of references will gladly be provided upon request.
