Paying respectful homage to the original buildings and elevating the school’s presence along well-trafficked El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego, the Hoover High School project stands as a welcoming new threshold to the campus. This 85,000-square-foot Lease-Leaseback project included the demolition of the original 1930s theater and construction of a new theater and three-story classroom building on an active, 2,200-student campus. Spanish architecture meets old-fashioned schoolhouse style, honoring the school’s history with modern, energy efficient design. The technologically advanced theater is a valuable addition to the school and the local community, equipped to host a range of high school activities and public events. In addition to 20 classrooms, the threestory building houses administrative and counseling offices, a student store, and various other staff facilities.
