Scope Of Work

The work for this project included foundation construction for the new 40,000 square foot St. George Ferry Terminal in Staten Island, New York. This ferry terminal is an Intermodal commuter facility, which is in operation twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week and three hundred and sixty five days a year. The project was performed in phases adjacent to the active terminal while maintaining the movement of passengers and vehicles on and off the ferryboats at all times. The work required the excavation and disposal of approximately 4,500 cubic yards of petroleum contaminated soil and C&D debris along with the dewatering of excavation per New York City regulations. These regulations required a New York City dewatering permit to allow the discharge of treated effluent into the public water system. The foundation support consisted of approximately 420 concrete filled pipe piles driven to rock. Static load testing was performed as per the New York City Building Code 44. Minipiles were installed under low clearance conditions within the existing facility and under an existing parking structure. ECCO III ENTERPRISES, INC. was chosen by the New York City Economic Development Corp based upon the proposal submitted which included a technical proposal detailing means and methods of construction as well as geotechnical, environmental and constructability concerns.
