Our Story

In 1988, as a Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter and Plumber, Hal Wininger applied for his Michigan Mechanical Contractor’s License and started Wininger Fire Protection, Inc. out of his barn in Birch Run, Mi. Armed with a degree from Ferris State University in Construction Management and over a decade of skilled trade knowledge, the company quickly gained a reputation for efficient, quality installation of fire protection projects.  Early projects included the world famous Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth and the University of Toledo Museum of Art.

Moving the fabrication shop and offices to neighboring Frankenmuth, “Michigan’s Little Bavaria”, Hal changed the spelling of the company’s name to Winninger Fire Protection, Inc., both to reflect the town’s German roots and those of the company’s founder. Projects grew around Michigan to encompass prisons in St. Louis, MI and schools across the state. The sphere of construction includes military barracks, nursing homes, hospitals, office buildings, churches, residences, and beyond. The company has become vested in providing quality, reliable fire protection in the cities of the Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan including Flint, Saginaw, Midland and Bay City. We work with pride to develop the downtown districts of these great cities and their surrounding areas.

After nearly three decades of incorporation, the company remains a family owned and run enterprise. Hal continues to oversee all aspects of design and installation while his wife, Kim, manages the office. Clint, joined the business after returning from Michigan Technological University and Arizona State University with a Master’s Degree in engineering specializing in hydraulics and fluid dynamics in branching pipelines.

Entering 2014, WINNINGER FIRE PROTECION, INC, provides a balance of over 40 years of sprinkler fitting knowledge with cutting edge engineering development to provide an answer to all your fire protection needs. Family owned and run, we are small enough to give personal attention to every project yet big enough handle multi-million dollar installations. Please contact Hal, Clint, or Kim for quotes on your inspection, design, or installation needs.
