Our Story

Founded in 1972, Southeastern Surveying and Mapping Corporation (SSMC) is an independent, employee-owned Land Surveying, Subsurface Utility Location and Geographic Information Systems company that serve Florida's leading public and private organizations.

SSMC's management staff of 20 Professional Surveyors and Mappers and 1 Professional Engineer has a combined total of more than 655+ years of experience and supervises 22 Survey/CAD/GIS Technicians and 28 Field Teams. SSMC's Team can be deployed to provide a single statewide source for geospatial data, graphic presentation, database design and delivery, and data management consultation.

Land Surveying by SSMC applies experience and a complete surveyor's toolkit including GPS systems, electronic field books and proprietary data collection format, and graphic production using MicroStation, ArcInfo, AutoCAD Land Development, CAiCE, and GEOPAK tools to deliver compatible data in ready-to-use form to our clients and team members. Qualifications by the Federal Highway Administration, the Florida Department of Transportation, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection testify that SSMC employs the staff, equipment, and methods suitable for three dimensional surveying and mapping to the highest standards. Schedule and budget compliance are full time concerns, with daily tracking and reporting by an in-house designed system customized to the requirements of a full-service mapping group.

Subsurface Utility Designation and Location (Test Holes) by SSMC's Utility Division, employs the best electronic sensing devices as well as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and records research to designate underground utilities, and then uses highly mobile, safe, nondestructive vacuum excavation equipment to uncover and positively identify them. The SSMC Utility Crews are additionally equipped with RTK GPS Receivers, which enable them to quickly and accurately locate the exposed utility when performing Test Holes or when performing utility designation. Since utility crews are cross-trained in field survey methods with survey crews, the three-dimensional mapping of utilities can follow the designation and location seamlessly. In every case, the close integration of utility and survey crews deliver the highest quality and precludes the need to outsource any part of the underground mapping process. Additionally, the SSMC Utility Division performs Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Pipe Inspection Services. The system is used to perform as-built inspections, locate service connections, and find buried manholes, valves, and etcetera.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are created and maintained by SSMC's GIS Division. This division has been designing and developing digital maps and collecting data for their associated databases since 1989. The division can also supply the training and support required to help clients derive maximum returns from the integration of GIS mapping into an asset management system. Utilities and storm water management districts can derive substantial benefits from inventorying their facility’s infrastructure and managing it, to support their maintenance and operations personnel. Detailed condition assessments and inspections linked to the database provide a resource for prioritizing future improvements. GPS equipped field teams from the GIS Division are readily available to furnish the data that populates the databases. Having mapped thousands of Stormwater, Water, Wastewater and Transportation Assets, SSMC's GIS Division has developed comprehensive GIS data models which can be used to jump starts our client's GIS implementations. All database design and development, data conversion, field data collection and data delivery are managed under a common supervisory structure. Additionally, the GIS Division offers - Vehicle Based Mobile Imaging for Pavement Mapping and Condition Assessment.

SSMC's administrative infrastructure includes continually updated Quality Control, Operations, Field Procedures, and Graphic Standards Manuals created and maintained in-house. The Manuals bring discipline and standardization to the work that is easy to translate to customer standards. Schedules at Southeastern Surveying are updated daily and budgets are reviewed weekly using custom software for time input and a Daily Schedule Report that is linked to an FDOT audited accounting system.

SSMC clients (some of these have been clients for over 39 years) would list like a Who's Who in Florida Business, Professions, and Government. SSMC's employees have enjoyed many years of continuing work relationships with the staffs of surveying and engineering consultants, theme parks, developers, law firms, and all levels of government. Work is regularly performed throughout the entire State of Florida as well as a variety of assignments in remote locations overseas.

Our clients know that our emphasis on Quality, Schedule, and Budget are essential ingredients that make their projects successful, and they need only a single phone number for every measurement, map or database solution.
