Scope Of Work

The firm designed the renovation of an existing five-story, 116,000sf 1941 munitions factory for Franklin Towne Charter School to provide much needed expansion space. The updated and expanded facility serves over 1000 students from grades 9-12. The new space includes a 350 seat auditorium, black box theater, committed science labs, dedicated curriculum classroom floors, and administrative spaces. Building 108 required new flooring, room arrangements, and general maintenance performed while school was out of session. A significant structural aspect of the project was to remove four interior columns to create the open auditorium space on the first floor of the building. Design emphasis was placed on day-lighting, energy efficiency, low maintenance / high durability, systems integration, and adhering to the contextual character of the existing building. Change orders and construction delays were kept to a minimum while adhering to an aggressive completion deadline.
