Scope Of Work
As the electrical subcontractor under Turner Construction, BEI provided all of the wiring and electrical equipment for this $30 million, 84,000 sf, six-story facility. This included lighting, switchgear, ductbanks, mechanical equipment wiring, fire alarms, a dimming system, a generator, and voice/data.
The building houses a centralized student machine shop, rapid prototyping facilities, biomedical/chemical engineering labs, studio classrooms, design fabrication and assembly spaces, a lecture hall, project display areas, and a lounge/study space. It is home to the following:
Segal Design Institute
Farley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Walter P. Murphy Cooperative Engineering Program
Master of Product Design and Development Management (MPD2) Program
MMM Program
This facility was the first Northwestern University building to achieve Silver-level certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. It incorporates several sustainable design techniques including the use of natural daylight in 75% of the building's interior spaces, mechanized sunshades with solar tracking on the fades, and a raised floor air displacement system reduces cooling loads.
