Scope Of Work
This complex project was performed throughout an active, operating Medical Center campus and involved a large amount of civil work.
Nine buildings were demolished, demolition waste salvages and debris removed. Several of the buildings constructed in the 1890s presented added challenges with their 12″ thick brick bearing walls and interior supports. Valiant safely demolished these as well as other contracted structures. Multiple disciplines were involved in the successful completion of this project including abatement, utilities, mechanical and electrical.
Valiant performed precision grading (e.g., B13 was demolished and a parking lot was constructed over the old site). Storm drains were also installed requiring sloped grades. Upon completion of all demolition and utility work, Valiant back filled and compacted all excavations and trenches, graded the back fill to match adjacent existing grades and planted and established grass while protecting all trees.
Adding to the complexity of this project was the fact that the project was performed next to the Marion National Cemetery. Close coordination was required to schedule demolition work limiting noise, dust and other disturbances to scheduled internments.
