Charlie Nattland grew up in architectural heaven: New York City. Walking the streets of downtown Manhattan, he would pass gems—Grand Central Station, the Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building. The art of architecture was everywhere, and Charlie wanted to contribute to the profession’s rich heritage and tradition. After more than 30 years as an architect, Charlie still enjoys seeing designs become works of art that people live or work or play in. His work is ever evolving to meet changing technologies in construction and business. Charlie’s favorite projects include the California School Boards Association building, which previously housed a trucking association and a soils engineering firm and was transformed into a professional, enduring space. His work on the Shingle Springs Fire Station No. 28 involved extraordinary collaboration with the owner and the contractor, including a drastic demolition—but which came in on time and under budget.

Growing up, Steve saw many different parts of the world – from Boston to Rio de Janeiro – and as a result, he saw many different types of architecture and environments. He brought his passion for architecture to CSHQA as an intern in 1976, worked in Chicago and around the world, and returned to CSHQA in 2005. Now as a Principal Architect, Steve leads collaborative teams on many aviation and retail projects using a strengths-based approach to yield the best outcomes for clients. His role as project manager is to manage architectural and engineering projects from the conception stage through construction and completion, ensuring that the teams meet the client’s quality, schedule, contractual, and budget goals.
