Blue Moon Design Group, Inc. is a small architecture firm nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. While most of our work has been focused on  commercial and religious architecture, we offer a variety of design and consulting services.

Our primary goal at Blue Moon is to offer superior design services at economical rates. We seldom see the high-dollar clients that large firms chase after. Our clientele is more down to earth and usually have very tight budgetary constraints. Due to our low overhead and efficient design procedures, we can work with these clients where other firms cannot, normally saving them between 20% and 60% on design fees.

Meet the President

Mark Gibson, although from humble beginnings, has emerged as a highly innovative architect, excelling at adaptive reuse of existing buildings as well as being exceptionally adept at designing new structures that not only serve the needs of the client well, but do so in ways that save both in space and budget.

Originally born in Kentucky, he dropped out of high school at age 17 to join the U.S. Marine Corps. After his tour of duty was over, he worked in construction in California, Kentucky and New Orleans until finally deciding that a higher education was necessary for what he wanted out of life. He earned a bachelor’s honors degree in industrial technology with a minor in anthropology, and spent a year in Europe through a study abroad program, studying architecture in Hungary and Finland. He then completed a master’s degree in management, also from Murray State University in Kentucky.  Later he completed a master of architecture degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

After his graduation from Virginia Tech, he has worked as a timber-frame designer in a leading timber frame company and completed an internship with a noted regional architecture firm.

After becoming a licensed architect, he combined his love of art and business in 2006 when he launched Blue Moon Design Group, Inc. Since then he has sought the fine balance between the two.
