Our Story

One Way Electric Inc. was founded in 2004 by former US Marine David Fernandes and his wife, Heather. David was a disabled war veteran, and due to his service, was able to secure a Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE) status here in California.  In May of 2014, David was in a tragic motorcycle accident leaving him with a traumatic brain injury.  A few months after the accident, David passed away, which in turn disqualified the family's electrical business as a DVBE.

His widow, Heather, fully capable of operating the business was now left scrambling to learn how to function without the DVBE status.  Quickly she learned of few other DVBE owned business which had discontinued to operate due to the passing of the veteran, leaving the disabled veteran's family with tragedy and hardship.

Heather, determined to carry out David's wishes in leaving a thriving business for his family sought out support from other DVBE owned business.  The support came in droves as the contractor community relationships she and David had developed over the years felt the need to make a change in the DVBE status; leading to the writing of Assembly Bill 413.  The California State Bill 413 looks to modify the current law (and reflect what the Federal Government has already adopted in May of 2015) to allow the continuance of DVBE owned business after the disabled veteran has passed or has suffered a "permanent medical disability" so that the family of the veteran can have the stability and security of the veteran owned business.

Supporters of the bill recognize the need to continue the disabled veteran business for a period of time in support of the disabled veteran's families!  And with the drive and support of Heather and her fellow DVBE friends, this bill will likely pass the States assembly and Senate, leaving these disabled veterans with greater stability for their families.

History:

One Way Electric Inc. was DVBE until the recent loss of its president, David Fernandes, in 2014.  One Way Electric Inc. is now being operated by Mr, Fernandes' surviving spouse, Heather Fernandes, as a Woman Owned Business.  Mrs. Fernandes is receiving incredible support from her established relationships in the contractor community to help this company survive its loss and thrive. Currently, State Bill 413 regarding DVBE Survivorship is in process to help Disabled Veteran Owned Business in this situation.  Pending its approval, One Way Electric Inc. dba WAVE Electrical Contractors along with future companies who lose the Disabled Veteran of their family owned business, will be able to continue with the DVBE certification for three years. A wonderful opportunity to support all Disabled Veteran Families and Companies!
