Scope Of Work

To provide patients with the most advanced cancer treatment available, Allegiance Health chose to expand and modernize the Gayle M. Jacob Cancer Center, which offers Hematology Oncology services in a comfortable healing environment. Prior to the creation of this cancer center, the community did not have anything like it and patients had to travel to receive their treatment.

The project included renovation of the second and third floors of an occupied professional building on the Allegiance Health campus. The second floor became a break room and office space, while the third floor was transformed into a peaceful treatment environment. An infusion suite with 19 chemotherapy infusion stations overlooks a serene reflecting garden and allows patients to control lighting, temperature, privacy, and the direction of their chair. A resource room provides patients and family members with educational materials to answer a wide variety of questions and offers insight on the challenges of cancer treatment. The Cancer Center also includes 15 large exam rooms, a lab and a pharmacy. The use of advanced technology was key for this project, so Chemotherapy IV Robotics technology was installed in the hematology oncology pharmacy and assists with mixing the medications. It performs many of the chemotherapy preparations and ensures dosage accuracy. At the time it was implemented there were very few of these robots being used  the nation.

Christman provided full construction management services for the project and utilized its longstanding relationship with Allegiance Health to effectively deliver the vision of the project. The building needed to remain operational during construction, so the Christman team did much of its work on nights and weekends to minimize disruptions to the surrounding areas. The team was also conscious of recycling waste and implementing lean processes. Christman worked hand in hand with Allegiance Health to ensure that the process went smoothly.
