David grew up around construction, working his teen years in the
summer for the contracting business his father started in 1950. But,
instead of heading for a construction job-site following high school
he spent the next five years traveling the Northwest playing bass in a
rock ‘n’ roll band. Realizing rock ‘n’ roll stardom wasn’t his
calling; he enrolled at Oregon State University in the Construction
Engineering Management Program (CEM). After graduating from OSU in
1980, he joined Andersen Construction full time. At that time Andersen
was mainly an industrial and retail contractor. After becoming
President in 1988, the business expanded into healthcare, high-tech,
and multi-family housing markets, and today guides Andersen
Construction’s overall vision as Chairman of the Board.
