What do you get when you replace bland stock cabinets in a Seattle waterfront condo with highly figured cherry custom cabinetry?  A stunning view inside and out! 

 

Previous to its renovation, half of this kitchen was blocked by a wall and two awkward pillars that blocked the entrance.  Cabinet and counter space was sparse, at best.    The style and color of the stock cabinets gave a very dated feel.

 

The homeowners had their heart set on highly figured (curly) cherry.  They also wanted storage for their wine glasses and table settings that they could show off.  Two load-bearing posts posed an artistic and aesthetic challenge.  The solutions?

 

Sequenced and matched curly cherry cabinets reach to the ceiling on the back wall, maximizing storage space.  A stunning matching panel hides the refrigerator, giving a seamless look that visually opens the space.  Moving the refrigerator to the back wall allowed the partial wall to come down, giving way to the amazing Seattle waterfront view.   It also allowed for the entire “island” section of the kitchen to be unhindered cabinet storage. 

 

Glass paneled doors on the outside of the cabinets beautifully store and display the homeowner’s  glasses and tableware, while maximizing both sides of the island space. 

 

Rather than being unsightly nuisances, the load-bearing columns became stunning features once they were wrapped with the same highly figured cherry veneer.  Adding a matching top beam between the columns ties the look together.

 

Hidden features include dovetail drawers, full extension glides, and a 35 quart pull-out trash unit.

 

The end solution is nothing short of amazingly stunning.  The homeowners are thrilled with how much more functional, not to mention beautiful, their storage is, and marvel that they can now enjoy the beauty outside while enjoying an amazing view inside.
